Thinking of you

Hello- Happy Thursday!

I am sharing this card over on the CardMaker Blog today for a U Inspire me post on finding inspiration in either art, home decor, or fashion, etc.  Check out the CardMaker blog to see my inspiration piece.

I thought I would also share here, and the super simple way I did the background.

To create the background, it starts with just these three Art GRIP® Aquarelles and watercolor paper.  It'a all done by building layers of color and adding little by little.  I lightly colored the whole sheet with the lightest of the blue, then went over it with a wet paintbrush to bring it to life.
You can see my cheat sheet underneath.  I have wet and dry samples to see actual color.

Next I want to add the varying colored striations, so I am using a scratch piece of watercolor paper, and I scribble the colors onto this sheet and pick them up with a wet paintbrush.  If your color is too intense, you can always lighten it with more water.

I would let it sit and dry just a tad, and can add color directly onto the paper this way also, I tend to be heavy handed when I color, so I prefer the blended look from using a scratch paper.  The other fun way to add color is to lightly wet your paper, and then VERY lightly drag the pencil through the wetness and it leaves beautiful streaks.

Another fun trick is you can do is to mix them on your scratch paper.  I colored both colors here to get a different color to add.

You just build layers of color little by little until you are happy with the results.  Sometimes less is more, and it's hard to stop! ;)  I have never got the Copic coloring skill down, but I love watercoloring.  Not only is it slightly therapeutic, it's easy and VERY forgiving.

To finish the card off, I adhered it to a Kraft card base, added a few die cut flowers, and my sentiment.  I also added a few touches of gold from a Wink of Stella pen.

Happy birthday card using @lilinkerdesigns

Hello- I had a few moments to work on a few projects this last week and thought I would add a few for the Lil' Inker Designs Meet Up challenge.

I love the balloon set, it's so adorable with the matching dies!  I created a deep shaker card window so I could pop up my balloons a bit.  The background is simply the sentiment stamped repeatedly at an angle.

I have a few more, back soon! :)

Thanks for being Awesome!

I found a little free time to whip up a couple of 'just because' cards this week and am throwing them in the mix for the MMC over at the Lil' Inkers Blog.

I mean, who wouldn't love a card letting them know they are awesome?!  I haven't been able to stop using this die lately, it's my favorite at the moment!  I wanted to keep it simple and focus on the sentiment.  I did add a few strips on the top and bottom of the blue card stock with one of the little elements from the set.

Stay tuned...I may have used that very same die on another card... ;)

Thanks for being Awesome using @lilinkerdesigns

The other day I finally took a moment and colored all my watercolors in my journal to get a better idea of the real color.

I saw a post a while back from a mixed media artist who says she never wastes anything, and it got me thinking about just watching all that amazing color get washed out as I dumped the brush back into the water.
So instead of just washing the color off, in between changing colors I decided to start wiping the excess color off onto a piece of card stock I had.  And the end result was this.  I added an embossed sentiment from Lil' Inkers and one of their die cuts, mounted on to black card stock then on to a base and done!  I just love how it turned out.   I need to repeat it with blues and greens I think!

eta: I'm adding this to the Monthly meet up challenge over at Lil' Inkers blog!

You have the biggest heart!

Hiya!  I have been playing around with distress inks lately and thought I would work on my blending.

So many people are amazing at blending inks, and I am not one of them. :)  So, I opted to try watercoloring with them this time.  MUCH more forgiving!  I think one of the reasons I enjoy the current watercolor fad is because there's no real exactness to it.  It can be what you make it, and sometimes you just want to create for fun.

After making a semi ombre color pattern on my paper, I added a few splatters of water, embossed some hearts  and a sentiment from the new Simon Say Stamp Lilas Heart stamp set, and popped it up onto my card base.

Im not sure if I like the overall design of this one, but not all projects are winners in our minds  ;)   But, usually when I give a handmade card, the recipient is pretty thankful, therefore making it a winner in my book after all!

enjoy! :)

Awesome foil card using @lilinkerdesigns

Im sharing a quick tutorial on adding foil to your die cuts over on the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® blog today.

I really wanted to focus to be the foiled die, but also needed to add a bit a something to the background as well.  I added a little embossing paste and gold liquid ink splatters.  I also added a few strips of washi underneath the panel as well.

Check out the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® blog for all the details!

Blog hopping with Bo Bunny hop- Thank You card

Hello- Welcome to day 5 of the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® and Bo Bunny® hop!

This whole week the Scrapbook Adhesives and Bo Bunny teams are hopping along with tons of inspirations and of course prizes!
My card today uses the Sweet Life Collection Pack again- I just love the papers in this collection! I decided to use the tag from the Flutter page as my focal point.  I adhered the 'thank you' using the letters from the Double Dot Aqua Stickers.
What I loved about this tag is all the layered elements.  I also added a mini pink pearl to the center of the butterfly.  A few stickers and it's good to go!

I adhered the striped patterned paper using the E-Z Runner® Permanent Strips Refillable
again for the wood paper layer.  I then die cut a few circles and adhere them to the card along with twine.  I tucked a few more strips of scraps from the Wish & Blessed papers, sliding one end under the circles, and the other on top of them.
To finish the card off, I adhered the tag with 3D Foam Squares

Blog Hopping with Bo Bunny- Mothers Day Card & Bag

Hello- Welcome to day two of the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® and Bo Bunny® blog hop!

This whole week the Scrapbook Adhesives and Bo Bunny teams are hopping along with tons of inspirations and of course prizes!

With Mothers day right around the corner, I thought I would make a card and gift bag ensemble.  I'm using the Sweet Life Collection Pack.

I've taken a regular kraft store white gift bag and covered the front with the floral side of the Enjoy 12 X 12 paper using the E-Z Runner® Permanent Strips Refillable.  I then created banner pieces from the Inspire & Wish patterns.

Then I adhered the doily shape using E-Z Dots® Permanent Refillable to the banner pieces. Before securing the whole thing to the bag, I tied some twine around several times and into a bow.  To finish the bag off, I added a few sequins.

To create the card, I used the same papers, starting with adhering a piece of the Inspire paper onto my card from using the E-Z Runner® Permanent Strips Refillable.  I also used a strip of the floral Enjoy paper, and the remaining half of my daily die cut.  Once adhered together, I tied the twine around before securing to my card front.
I added a small strip of glittered card stock to the Wish strip of paper and then adhered them both to a stamped circle die cut.  To adhere the circle to my card I used 3D Foam Squares.

To adhere the butterfly, I doubled up the larger of the variety mix 3D Foam Squares on the top wings, (because they will be hanging off of my popped up circle) and one of the smaller 3D Foam Squares on the bottom wings.

I added a few sequins here as well to finish it off.
and who doesn't love a giveaway?

Happy Birthday Shaker card

Hello- Happy hump day, it's Friday here for us, teacher conferences tomorrow and the next...4 day weekend! :)

I'm sharing a shaker card tutorial over on the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Blog today using their Keepsake Envelopes.

The envelopes are actually a great little thing for scrapbooking, and when you run out of acetate to make a shaker card...they work well there also!

Thinking of you using @AveryElleStamps

Back for more watercoloring practice with my SpectrumAquas.  :)

I finally picked up some various types of watercolor paper, cheaper stuff to play on, strathmore and ranger to use for projects.  This is just the cheaper kind, this was a test run on this little cutie, but I LOVED how he turned out.
I added a heart from the Red & Goldie set to my Furry Friend pup, and the sentiment is from the  Petals & Stems set, all form Avery Elle.

I added a few splatters of ink and popped up my panel before sticking this little guy in the mail.  Working on being better about actually mailing these things out- the piles of cards are getting out of hand.

Hello card using @AveryElleStamps

Its Wednesday here, (I think...?) and we're halfway through spring break.  It's actually been pretty nice, we put the trampoline up a few weeks back and have had a revolving door of neighborhood kids in and out every day, and night.  ;)  I LOVE hearing them all play so happily and OUTDOORS no less.

anyways- onto my card.

I am sharing a quick card today- more watercolor practice with my spectrum aquas.  Lightly colored the adorable elephant, he's so darned cute!
I am not quite where I want to be with watercoloring yet, but I love all the ways you can use the Spectrum Aquas- they are SO fun!

You're Dog-Gone Awesome using @AveryElleStamps

Im sharing a card over on the CardMaker blog today, so I thought I would share here as well. :)

The premise of the post is to use your scraps on a project.  So here, my ribbon, kraft, & white card stock is my scrap pieces.  I still had the Spectrum Aquas out from a previous project as well as all the embossing items.  (I'm obsessed with heat embossing again! ;)  For years I hated to heat emboss anything, now I cant stop.

I heat set the adorable doggie, colored him in with the Spectrum Aquas and popped my tag up with 3D Foam Squares.  The sentiment is also heat embossed and popped up.  I stamped a few paw prints, then covered them with glossy accents.  I love how this turned out, I am going to make a few more dog cards, I could use more practice with my coloring!

CardMaker Blog hop with Sakura

Welcome!  Today the CardMaker Blog team is hopping using Sakura of America's products.

My card today focuses on the Gelly Roll Classic White pen.  I created my background using the white pen and a ruler.  The pen writes really well onto colored card stock, better than any other white gel pen I have used.  I decided to leave it a bit off-kilter and not complete the whole background, and i like the end result!  I can see myself using this for more backgrounds in the future. ;)
I popped up my flowers and highlighted a few of the middle stamen pieces with the Clear Glaze pens to add a little detail and depth to them.

I am the LAST stop on the hop today, if you missed anyone, make sure to head back through and check out everyones projects!

Every Girl card using @lilinkerdesigns

I just recently got a new set of the Spectrum Aqua markers, and have been playing around with them. Some days it's so fun to just color or play and not have a plan.  Which is sort of what happened here with this card...

And for some reason, I really just love how this turned out- which is SO odd considering my love for clean and white space.  :)

I was just trying colors out, playing amounts of color to water, and I ended up with a fun background piece and decided I could use it.  The stamp is from Lil' Inkers, and the gold splatter is from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L's new Pigment Powders.  (Check out the "how to" here on the Pigment Powder.)

I stamped the sentiment and hearts and then embossed with white detail embossing powder, then finished it off with a little grey striped washi tape before popping it up on a card base.
