I went with what I have always called a box card, it opens up just like a box, and you can put something inside if it's relatively flat. Should you be interested in trying this, I made an attempt a while back to show how to here.
Julie Koerber also has a fabulous tutorial to do this same thing here.
It uses a sheet of printer paper for the folded portion, so I adhere a piece of cardstock to the back so it's not to flimsy.
I stamped the mug in memento ink and colored it in with my copics.
The paper is from LAD pretty papers line and for the inside of the card I just stamped the snowflake on bordering blue to mimic the pattern in the paper.

At first I thought it was just a gate-fold card and I thought "whew! I'm glad I didn't do that, too!" because I almost did. But it's way more than a gate-fold and very cool! I'll have to check out your tutorial sometime!
