CFC103 Congrats

Happy almost weekend! It's time for another CAS-ual Fridays challenge!  Today's challenge is a simple one, and one that is handy for this time of year! Who doesn't need a Congrats card at the end of school year? ;)

For my card today, I usedSpellbinders Spiral Blossoms One and the Foliage dies for my flower.  Now that the flowers are finally starting to bloom around here, I seem to be using more inside as well!   I adhered a strip of Authentique paper to my case, and then stamped the sentiment from Lawn Fawn.

Make sure to head over to the CAS-ual Fridays blog and check out the others samples!

I am sharing a few quickie cards today using IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® new Memento LUXE™ Mixed Media Pigment Ink in Dandelion, Rose Bud, & Teal Zeal.  I used Avery Elle's Blooming Banner to whip up a few quick cards to have on hand!
The Memento Luxe mixed media ink is so rich and thick it is perfect for clear stamps-the coverage is perfect!!  And it's great for fabrics, wood, leather and more.

For my next card, I left it a it cleaner, and adding the yellow pop of color below.  I used the same color scheme, and added a few pink gems instead.

CFC102 Celebrate

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

This weeks CAS-ual Friday challenge is to use Red, White, and Blue on your card to celebrate the upcoming Memorial Day holiday!

This weeks sponsor is Simon Says Stamp!

For my card today, I used Avery Elle's Celebrate set.  I stamped the red line all the way across the card on the angle, but had to stretch the blue by covering the gap in the middle with my die cut.  ;)  I adhered a few sequins to finish it off!

make sure to check out the others projects on the Cas-ual Fridays blog!

You Inspire Me

Hola!

I'm back with another card for this month's artist in residence post- today I am using several different inks to create a few custom colors for my card!! :)

For my card today, I started with several Spellbinders dies for my inspiration.  After cutting/embossing each one, I left them in the die template to ink through with my IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento™ Dye inks using the IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Sponge Daubers™.
For the top butterfly, I inked the inside of the butterfly with Dandelion, and while still wet, I started adding Lady Bug and blended it into the Dandelion color.  Working quickly while the ink is still wet, it blends nicely to create an orange hue in between the two colors.
I did the same thing with the following butterflies, starting with the Cantaloupe on the middle one, and working out to Teal Zeal.  The last butterfly I started with the Bahama Blue, and blended into the Sweet plum.  I love the rainbow effect it came out with.

enjoy!

Guest Blogger, Stacey Caron from Spellbinders Paper Arts

Hello Everyone!

I’m so thrilled to write a guest post on AJ Otto’s blog!

My name is Stacey Caron and I have known AJ for several years through my company, Spellbinders Paper Arts!   AJ is such a “real” person and I appreciate her more than she will ever know!  AJ will become the new 2013-2014 Spellbinders Design Team Coordinator in August. I am so thrilled that she has made the decision to get more involved with Spellbinders!

Three years ago, when AJ began designing for Spellbinders, I knew she “got it."  She creates projects that inspire but aren’t intimidating!  All the Spellbinders designers have a unique style and AJ’s “less is more” artistic style was exactly what I was looking for!

I’d like to share one of my all-time favorite projects that AJ created. I even used it in an ad for Spellbinders!  Be sure to check out the supply list and brief instructions, so that you are able to create your own cute Advent Box!

I want to take the time to Thank AJ for allowing me to do a guest post on her blog. It is truly an honor to be exposed to her readership this way.

The top three things I admire about AJ are:

• AJ’s inner strength- She has met the enemy head on and fought cancer as a fierce warrior, inspiring all who know her.

• AJ’s ability to keep things simple and beautiful has helped me see how less is really more.

• AJ’s calming presence-She has always helped me find a soft peaceful place to go in my crafting.
Thank you so much for allowing me to guest blog and share myself with you today.

Hugs,

My first card uses Becky's new set Bold Blooms- I just love the pattern that makes up the flower!  I used an old sketch and loved how the flower was offset in the corner (and backed with the Turquoise Sea card stock)  for my starting point.  The sentiment is stamped in the new Black Onyx Color Companion inks and comes from Assorted Greetings set.

For my next card, I used Melanie's Pretty Patterns 2.  This border image is such a fun one to create with.  I kept it simple using the new Turquoise Sea ink on Kraft cardstock, and paired it with the sentiment from Tami's set Simple Flowers.

Hello!

Hello!  Today I am sharing a fun way to create an hombre effect with your inks and Spellbinders dies.

For my card today, I stenciled through my die cut with the NEW IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento Luxe™ Mixed Media Pigment Ink in Rose Bud to create a fun hombre styled background.

I jsut want a strip wider than my black square, so I mask off both sides with scratch paper.  I die cut my pink cardstock with the Spellbinders Basic Lattice expandable patterns die template and taped it to my cardstock with removable tape.

I mask off the second side and use a piece of washi tape to hold it down for no other reason than it was closer than the removable tape! ;)  Dab the IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Jumbo Daubers™
onto the pad and gently tap down onto the die cut, careful not to wipe.  This ink is so smooth and fluid it blends really nice, and any side ways movement will cause it to smear.

I start at the bottom and work my way up, laying a bit more ink down on the one edge, and less on the opposite edge. Just dabbing as I go, and adding more ink as needed.  Move the tape up as you move along so it's not masked off in that area.

You can see where the ink coverage is darker towards the edge and slightly lessens.

Remove the masks and the die cut, and you are ready to finish your card.  I let this sit a minute or two (It's has a super fast set) while I finished the sentiment and other die cut before adding the twine.  Make sure to heat set it if you are unable to wait!

 enjoy!!
