You're a Gem card

YAY! It's the weekend!

The weather has been so amazing lately, and being on a small break from soccer, weekends have been filled with so much leisurely fun time I almost wish soccer wouldn't start back up again...I'm sure a certain child would disown me if she heard me say that! ;)

I have a quick mini tutorial over on the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® blog today showing how to use Crafty Power Tape for creating backgrounds.  Pop on over to see the whole thing!

I'm also throwing this card in the ring for the anything goes challenge over at the Wednesday Simon Says Stamp challenge blog.

enjoy!

Thinking of you

Hello- Happy Thursday!

I am sharing this card over on the CardMaker Blog today for a U Inspire me post on finding inspiration in either art, home decor, or fashion, etc.  Check out the CardMaker blog to see my inspiration piece.

I thought I would also share here, and the super simple way I did the background.

To create the background, it starts with just these three Art GRIP® Aquarelles and watercolor paper.  It'a all done by building layers of color and adding little by little.  I lightly colored the whole sheet with the lightest of the blue, then went over it with a wet paintbrush to bring it to life.
You can see my cheat sheet underneath.  I have wet and dry samples to see actual color.

Next I want to add the varying colored striations, so I am using a scratch piece of watercolor paper, and I scribble the colors onto this sheet and pick them up with a wet paintbrush.  If your color is too intense, you can always lighten it with more water.

I would let it sit and dry just a tad, and can add color directly onto the paper this way also, I tend to be heavy handed when I color, so I prefer the blended look from using a scratch paper.  The other fun way to add color is to lightly wet your paper, and then VERY lightly drag the pencil through the wetness and it leaves beautiful streaks.

Another fun trick is you can do is to mix them on your scratch paper.  I colored both colors here to get a different color to add.

You just build layers of color little by little until you are happy with the results.  Sometimes less is more, and it's hard to stop! ;)  I have never got the Copic coloring skill down, but I love watercoloring.  Not only is it slightly therapeutic, it's easy and VERY forgiving.

To finish the card off, I adhered it to a Kraft card base, added a few die cut flowers, and my sentiment.  I also added a few touches of gold from a Wink of Stella pen.

enjoy!!

Happy birthday card using @lilinkerdesigns

Hello- I had a few moments to work on a few projects this last week and thought I would add a few for the Lil' Inker Designs Meet Up challenge.

I love the balloon set, it's so adorable with the matching dies!  I created a deep shaker card window so I could pop up my balloons a bit.  The background is simply the sentiment stamped repeatedly at an angle.

I have a few more, back soon! :)

Thanks for being Awesome!

Hola!

I found a little free time to whip up a couple of 'just because' cards this week and am throwing them in the mix for the MMC over at the Lil' Inkers Blog.

I mean, who wouldn't love a card letting them know they are awesome?!  I haven't been able to stop using this die lately, it's my favorite at the moment!  I wanted to keep it simple and focus on the sentiment.  I did add a few strips on the top and bottom of the blue card stock with one of the little elements from the set.

Stay tuned...I may have used that very same die on another card... ;)

enjoy!

Thanks for being Awesome using @lilinkerdesigns

The other day I finally took a moment and colored all my watercolors in my journal to get a better idea of the real color.

I saw a post a while back from a mixed media artist who says she never wastes anything, and it got me thinking about just watching all that amazing color get washed out as I dumped the brush back into the water.
So instead of just washing the color off, in between changing colors I decided to start wiping the excess color off onto a piece of card stock I had.  And the end result was this.  I added an embossed sentiment from Lil' Inkers and one of their die cuts, mounted on to black card stock then on to a base and done!  I just love how it turned out.   I need to repeat it with blues and greens I think!

eta: I'm adding this to the Monthly meet up challenge over at Lil' Inkers blog!

You have the biggest heart!

Hiya!  I have been playing around with distress inks lately and thought I would work on my blending.

So many people are amazing at blending inks, and I am not one of them. :)  So, I opted to try watercoloring with them this time.  MUCH more forgiving!  I think one of the reasons I enjoy the current watercolor fad is because there's no real exactness to it.  It can be what you make it, and sometimes you just want to create for fun.

After making a semi ombre color pattern on my paper, I added a few splatters of water, embossed some hearts  and a sentiment from the new Simon Say Stamp Lilas Heart stamp set, and popped it up onto my card base.

Im not sure if I like the overall design of this one, but not all projects are winners in our minds  ;)   But, usually when I give a handmade card, the recipient is pretty thankful, therefore making it a winner in my book after all!

enjoy! :)
